Audrey JacksonI am an educator who is committed to collaboratively cultivating therapeutic, responsive, and equity-based learning conditions for all children to thrive.
I am currently the Director of Student Achievement K-5 in Bedford Public Schools in Bedford, MA. In this role I have worn many hats, but my primary goals have been to collaboratively build capacity around integrating social-emotional learning, utilize data with a focus on inclusion and equity, and to develop systems for effective differentiation and intervention. From 2007-2018, I taught 5th grade inclusion in Boston Public Schools. Most recently, I co-taught with Victor Joyner at the J.P. Manning School in Jamaica Plain, MA, whose model specialized in trauma-informed culture and instruction. Victor and I organized our classroom around the idea that all children have the capacity to believe in themselves and thrive in school; sometimes they just need a little help seeing their own worth. My connections with students have always been the foundation for my practice. I believe that these types of connections and responsive pedagogy are at the core of excellent teaching. Fostering relationships, collectively building capacity, and approaching student and family engagement as a mutually beneficial partnership drive my practice… plus, it's fun! I am very fortunate and humbled to have been honored as the 2016 Massachusetts Teacher of the Year, and to have received the Intellectual Contribution & Faculty Tribute Award at Harvard Graduate School of Education, where I studied Human Development & Psychology as a James Bryant Conant Fellow. Teaching is awesome because I continue to learn and grow, professionally and personally, thanks to my students and colleagues. |

Want to Connect?Making time to build connections and relationships is not only essential to children affected by trauma, but to all of us; especially educators working to make sense of our students' lives, the effectiveness and implications of our practice, and the evolving educational landscape.
I welcome opportunities to connect. Please be in touch if you have an idea, request, or question! |
